Breanne Patterson of Nosey.People.Society

Breanne Patterson is the perfumist and founder of Nosey.People.Society, an independently owned Los Angeles-based brand. She enjoys sharing her love of scent and aroma in a communal, playful, and approachable way. She provides both experiences and products that exemplify this passion. She has developed events known as Scent Socials, where she guides small groups in the creative process of blending fragrance. Each person, developing their own signature scent with a curated palette of aromas.
All of her ingredients are hand-picked to ensure they are both clean and sustainable to people and the planet. Creating products handcrafted with detail down to the very molecule makes the process very personal to Breanne. It is not about trends or fads. It is an individual, personal journey and an expression of that. She wants people to own the experience, help them find their scent without getting intimidated by the process, and let them appreciate the world better by getting nosey.
Her collection of lovingly handwrought goodies and the Scent Social events are both available at The Hangout.
Tell us a little bit about your vision and what you offer:
I aim to foster the ability in each person to express themselves confidently and creatively with their own signature scents.
It amazes me how smell can affect moods and evoke different feelings. I use it for meditation, it focuses my energies to be in the now. It makes me feel calmer and lighter when I am blending fragrances. I want to share that same experience with others. That's why I hold events where the focus is for people to be comfortable playing with scent and enjoying the whole process. I want it to become a shared experience with family and friends, where they can play off of each others' capabilities and viewpoints. It is a bonding moment, creating memories and bringing layers of intimacy, cultivating relationships.
What is your background and how did it lead you to create Nosey People Society?
I am a trained perfumist. I also have a BFA in Fine Art Photography, a Fashion Design degree from FIDM, and am a WSET Diploma student (The Study of Wine and Viticulture) through the Napa Valley Wine Academy. My love for blending science and art inspired me to create Nosey.People.Society.
I love science and art equally. Olfactory art is a perfect blend of both. I studied olfaction for about 2 years before I ever started blending scents. I was intimidated, I was worried that I wouldn't be able to make anything good or even know if I did. Then one day I decided to start breaking down the process into more manageable steps. This became what I use to guide people in the creation of scent now. I love that I can share this with people, so they also can enjoy the experience and end up with something amazing.
What inspires you the most when creating?
I am often flooded with all sorts of associations, some even wild and crazy ones, when I smell fragrances. It feels both humbling and exhilarating to work with scent. It is so ethereal and yet it is everywhere. It's like, everything is already in front of you, and you are orchestrating it in a manner that speaks to you. It is very personal. It's just so cool to see science and art go together and create something spectacular and to have some part of that experience in any capacity is like performing magic.
Is there anything else you want to add?
Nosey.People.Society is for all perfume enthusiasts, including young adults who like to explore, find and express themselves through scent-blending. I offer private events for groups where we can create in the comfort of your home, virtually and/or I can walk you through the process one-on-one.
Nosey.People.Society is not just another perfume company. I provide experience, memories, help build character and find my clients' personalities through fragrance. It's a great bonding experience for families and groups of friends to enjoy.
