We sat down with one of our favorite apothecary companies Commonwealth Provisions to get to know them and their founder Luke a little bit better. Tell us a little bit about your vision and what you offer:
I was tired of working for someone else…wearing a shirt and tie every day and having the stress of others piled onto me. I wanted to break free from that life, so I began pouring candles in a spare room of the house. Why candles? Because I’ve always loved them! The smell, the flicker of the flame, the warm glow; there’s just something relaxing about having a candle burning in the house. I started creating scents based on our life and what we love. This is truly a business born out of love and I think that shows when you burn one of our candles.
The business has grown to a multi-product home fragrance brand that includes a variety of home fragrance and apothecary goods. Our motto is "goods for a great life". Keeping that in mind allows us to not only create new products to enhance our customer's lives but to also make sure those products are up to the highest standard. Currently we offer candles, incense cones, reed diffusers, room sprays, a citronella line; with more products on the horizon.
What is the most important thing you want others to know about you and your brand?
As the business has grown, the goal always stayed the same - craft quality products with American sourced ingredients that bring joy to others’ lives. Just as we started, we continue to make each of our products by hand in small batches. We hand pour, hand mix, hand dip, hand label, and hand package each and every item out of our Fredericksburg, Virginia production studio.
What inspires you the most when creating?
I wanted to share the power of scent with the world. Each scent offered is inspired by an amazing adventure, a childhood memory, or simply the great outdoors. I like to refer to them as scents of a life well lived.
Where is Commonwealth Provisions headed next?
Our goal is to continue to make products that make life just a little bit greater. We have our sights set on adding some body products to the lineup in the coming year.

Is there anything else you want to add?
From the beginning it had to be about more than just creating & selling a product. The love of animals is deeply ingrained in the Smith family so it was only natural to give back. Starting with the first candle ever sold, 10% of profits have been - and always will be - donated to the support of animal rescue.
