Artist Feature – Dennis Robicheua

We had the pleasure of sitting down with country singer and songwriter Dennis Robicheua who also happens to be playing the next 4th Fridays on October 22nd. Check out what Dennis has to say about his inspirations and then come on down to The Deadwood Saloon inside The Hangout to get a good listen!
"Dennis Robicheau is a country songwriter and guitar player from Long Beach Ca.
He has been in and around the scene for years. Having pending releases and new recordings he is working on. It is a true wonder when/if any of this music will be released. But you can take his word for it. He thinks they are pretty cool."
Tell us a little bit about your music and the sound you create:
My music has strong roots in country and "Americana" music. It's based around guitar, because I play guitar. I like to think I am taking simple ideas and making them more interesting while still presented in a pretty simple way.
What inspires you the most when making music?
Inspiration generally comes outta nowhere. Sometimes from other songs. Sometimes things just pop in your head out of nowhere. So things like work or walks get the mind goin. Every so often I'll sit down with the intention to write a song
How did you get started with music and more specifically
singing murder ballads?
My Dad is a bluegrass banjo player. So I grew up with a lot of bluegrass and folk music. Most bluegrass songs tend to be drinkin songs, murder songs, or spirituals. So I really grew up with it.
Who is your inspiration music-wise?
I have a ton of Inspiration. Obviously the classics Like Hank Williams, George Jones, Patsy Cline, Webb Pierce, Willie Nelson, Roger Miller, Emmylou Harris, Gram Parsons, and so on. I love the "Bakersfield sound" so naturally Buck Owens, Dwight Yoakham, and Merle Haggard. Id Say Doc Watson may very well be my favorite guitar player, and Townes Van Zandt may very well be my favorite song writer. The list can go on. However its been really inspiring to see the new class of some great writers playing real Country music. Like Jesse Daniel, Jamie Wyatt, Riddy Arman, Vincent Neil Emerson, Colter Wall, and many more great new talents.
