Burning Issues Book Club - Virtual Book Discussion - Last Sundays @ 12PM
Welcome to the Burning Issues Book Club, founded by @renatebakes! This book club has been formed to help facilitate our education on important topics facing humanity. Humans have historically been (and continue to be) horrible to each other, to our home, and to the other organisms that share this planet with us. We know things need to change, but many people aren’t sure where to start. This book club is a place for learning and personal growth within a safe online community to help us navigate and implement positive social change in the real world.
Our November book is "Our History Is The Future: Standing Rock Versus the Dakota Access Pipeline, and the Long Tradition of Indigenous Resistance" by Nick Estes.
About the book:
"In 2016, a small protest encampment at the Standing Rock Reservation in North Dakota, initially established to block construction of the Dakota Access oil pipeline, grew to be the largest Indigenous protest movement in the twenty-first century. In Our History Is the Future, Nick Estes traces traditions of Indigenous resistance that led to the #NoDAPL movement. Our History Is the Future is at once a work of history, a manifesto, and an intergenerational story of resistance."
